The WWE fans will say: 'Why do you care about the Knockouts? Aren't you a WWE Superstars fan?'
WWE was the company that introduced me to women's wrestling. Its division is my first love. I grew up with then-Divas looking at their 3-4 min. matches as my own little main event celebrations. WWE is still women's division is still my #1 despite the critics. But Impact Wrestling Knockouts have a special place in my heart!
Actually, the KOs were the first women who dare to fight in steel cages and Falls Counts Anywhere matches. When Gail Kim moved to the company, she started a huge rebuild of that roster. She wasn't alone. There were Awesome Kong, Velvet Sky and Angelina Love, Taryn Terrell, Ayako Hamada many more. During the years, we saw a lot of stunning talents from the indies come and go. Now with the WWE Women's Tag Team Title rebirth's shadow, we must remind ourselves that Impact also had its KO tag team gold, and talented women like current WWE Superstar Zelina Vega/Thea Trinidad, then known as Rosita, had won it.
Impact Wrestling's women found it hard these days to keep going. A lot of rumors circulated that the company is in collapse. Well, thanks to their deal with Lucha Underground and AAA, the second-best promotion in the USA got a vital injection of talent.
International talent and thought, colorful competition. |
Look at the current KO's Champion Taya Valkyrie. She is more than a famous Luchadora that is in the company as a part of the LU's invasion. Taya Valkyrie is one of the examples that Impact can capitalize on WWE's mistakes. Yes, here comes the story, that we have told you but we want to remind you: Taya was signed to then-WWE developmental territory FCW. The FCW bookers didn't know what to do with her, so her contract slowly was forgotten. Now Taya is an international superstar married to John Morrison.
WWE mistakes are Impact Wrestling's success! Tessa Blanchard is now on top of her career in Impact. |
Next: Tessa Blanchard. Blanchard is one of the ultimate talents that WWE missed signing. Oh, they used her in NXT and Mae Young Classic, but when it came to contract, they just closed their eyes in front of the opportunities, that her talent and heritage could bring in NXT and WWE. Now she is a former KO Champion and has a great rivalry with Valkirye.
There are no words to describe Rosemary as a character, talent, and star! An embodiment of greatness with a drop of darkness! |
We can't miss mentioning Allie and Rosemary, who are two of the biggest names and future Hall of Famers. These two characters brought so much to the company's storytelling that they deserve their legacy to be noticed and remembered.
Known as Cherry Bomb at the Indies, Allie became one of the top characters and performers in a short time, thanks to her talent. |
Su Yung is another iconic character from the independent women's wrestling scene. |
There are a lot of new and old talents, who are putting Impact women's division on the map. Last year the promotion invest in talented indie names like Kiera Hogan and Jordynne Grace, following the newly built tradition to scout and recruit iconic independent names, that WWE didn't catch on its radar. Su Yung. Alisha Edwards. Of course, they missed Hania The Howling Huntress or Hania missed the opportunity refusing to fit in a storyline, but aside from that the company is trying its best to hire familiar faces.
Kiera Hogan is a famous indie worker who got Impact Wrestling's attention last year. |
We saw the re-hiring going on as names like Katarina (formerly known as Winter) and Rebel are coming home. Even the retired Hall of Fame KO Gail Kim can't stand in the background for a long time involving herself in the Valkirye vs. Blanchard feud.
A Hall of Fame inductee and inaugural KO Champion Gail Kim helped to build the Impact Wrestling women's division. |
What still keeps Impact KOs on the map of women's wrestling is their contribution to it. Aside from the WWE Evolution, all of the past and present women in Impact Wrestling pioneered the ground of extreme matches and storylines that WWE soon will not present. The core of the division consisted of the great notables (Rosemary, Su Yung, Allie, Tessa Blanchard, Taya Valkyrie), with its gravitation could attract more and more new indie stars and former WWE employees, as well as Mexican high-flyers.
Impact and the KOs are going nowhere!
