Nice week of women's wrestling with many things put on the table, with 4-evolving storylines in SD Live, Moon granted #1 Contender's spot and Bayley will enter the title match at The Road to Wrestlemania's beginning!
It was nice to see Bayley pushed in the title picture via battle against old NXT rival!
Nia Jax is a power-house that you must respect! As a character she is the dominant woman who may reach the title reign in 2017. As a wrestler she has some tiny flaws, but overall she is amazing and really nice addition to RAW. All she needs is more competition in the face of her fellow Superstars and it's about to happen, when her rivalry with Sasha Banks evolve into PPV match, sooner or later.
Bayley! Her time comes at last! After one ruined by Dana Brooke title match it's time for her to try again. She won with little help from the Boss, but actually Bayley is good enough to earn this spot on her own. Now our (and her) concerns are: Will WWE creatives allow her to win at Royal Rumble PPV?
Bayley would make a good Champion and she will have a lot of contenders, not like Charlotte who has only two at this point. Bayley's win will make all of the women in the locker room, more active, because many of them underestimate her. People like Dana Brooke, Alicia Fox, the returning Emmalina, Nia Jax will get the opportunity to enter the title picture. Nia Jax, too! And we know that Bayley is a defending champion, unafraid of challenge.
On the other side we have this Charlotte's PPV winning streak. This is a really heavy argument for title retain. Of course it must end, someday, but is the Royal Rumble the place to do it? Is this the right moment for Bayley to win? Is Bayley's place as #1 Contender secure with whole locker room, full of heels (except Sasha, who is injured), with more villainous women (Tamina and Emmalina) announced to return soon? Everything can happen! Bayley may even not reach to the PPV at January 29!
But everything is in WWE's creatives hands!
SMACKDOWN LIVE: ALEXA RETURN'S THE FAVOR. ALIYAH MADE SDL DEBUT. NATALYA GET NAILED!
The La Luchadora storyline evolved. After a lot of speculation (the most ridiculous was that she is Tamina, when the La Luchadora physique has nothing in common with Tamina's), we are more willing to believe that she is Deonna Purrazzo and we hope that WWE will finally sign her. Even in SDL's brand!
Becky Lynch has take enough of her own medicine! This week fight with two La Luchadoras was brutal enough. But this open a doors of opportunities, like Mickie James return as Becky Lynch's partner for a tag team match against Alexa Bliss and La Luchadora. They can even make it for the SD Live's Women's Title, by adding a stipulation like: If anyone of team Becky pin the champ will get the title. So the La Luchadora angle continues and it got it's fuel to be long-living.
Meanwhile Aliyah become the second NXT female - Superstar to made SD Live debut for One Night Stand! Actually the idea for using NXT competitors, without drafting them is not bad, they must use their gen-next breed of talents, because they are amazing, and there is no need to destroy NXT's roster, by taking it stars.
Of course Carmella steal the victory with some help from her buddy James Ellsworth, who is equally annoying character for both women and men's divisions. We may see him in a Intergender match, why not? It will be nice if Aliyah, Alexa Bliss or Nikki Bella smash him!
At the end Aliyah's one night stand debut made her a moral winner and her present in the main roster was really nice. She works well with Carmella in the past, and this week she just do her job well!
Can you count to three? Of course you can! No, I am not making a casting for new Referees for WWE! We are on our way to analyze the third women storyline in SDL!
Natalya returned to her heel roots! Yes, she debuted as heel in WWE, she had one of her memorable career height when she was a part of Divas of Doom with Beth Phoenix, and her heel character of underrated talent, jealous of the other (babyface) women's success works really well for her! Natalya is really good on mic, her wrestling skills are doubtless.
This rivalry will work well for Nikki, who's evolution is more than obvious, despite the haters opinion. Come on, the girl returned after a nearly career ending injury! This is a fact that make me respect her more than ever (and you know that I have an issue with her real-life persona)! Nikki grows up - personally and professionally and I hope that she will hold the good level that she reached. Work, baby, work! And she didn't stop do it since her return, risking everything in a No DQ match against Carmella.
OK! This is #4!
SDL blows off the roof with 4th storyline, that involved a backstage personality.
Through the years we saw many of the women from the broadcast involved in a rivalries. Lilian Garcia had a tones of history of being abused by WWE Superstars (like Kane and etc.) and then-Divas (like Victoria).
Now we have Renee Young involved with The Miz's wife - Maryse. This makes all WWE fans start dreaming for a match between Maryse and Renee. Well, if there will be a match it's going to be a mixed tag, eventually or even intergender tag. Renee is not trained pro-wrestler. But we have seen many untrained stars out of wrestling business compete in the ring, even on Wrestlemania, like Snookie and Maria Menounos. So, Renee can be involved in that kind of match, making a several classic moves and ended finished. That is not a problem. An it will be a nice match for the Rumble's pre-show or it can be build even more for the next Blue brand's PPV.
While WWE's female-Superstars are working hard to get in the title picture, NXT's women didn't take a nap, too.
This week, we saw three of the top women in a clash for the hot spot of the #1 Contender and the best one win! We love Liv Morgan, we love Billie Kay, but Ember Moon is our favorite of the three of them and we dreamed to see her as challenger for Asuka. Ember really deserves it and this clash will means a lot for the other women from the indie scene, who are now training in the PC. Ember and Asuka will display in a pure way, how great are the indie girls and how much 90% of them deserve to be in WWE, even in a all-women show, similar to Cruiserweights' 205 live!
Buuut...
We wish to see Nikki Cross clashing with Asuka, prior Moon clash with the champion. These past weeks we saw one wordless war of the psychotic smiles exchange behind the scene between The Empress of Tomorrow and Cross. These cut scenes are priceless and entertaining. Just with face expression both women told a story of upcoming bloody battle!
We don't know about you, but we are dying to see it, before Ember's title shot!
And speaking about indies!
WWE presented some of the new trainees which is amazing and really powerful thing to do! Don't hide them behind the curtain! Let the fans have a taste of what is coming.
Andrea, Kimber Lee and Heidi Lovelace are her with some other names from different fields and this is great. The sad news is for me and the other SHINE, SHIMMER and etc. fans - our favorite indie promotions' roster are getting smaller and smaller. But at the end of the day, as a women's wrestling fan and annalist I am happy that this women are signed in WWE. They deserve it!
Good luck! Hope to see you soon in action!
Impact Wrestling started the year with match between Allie and Sienna. Of course it was "booked" by Maria and she and Laurel Van Ness, where around the ring.
Sienna on the other hand is really strong and competitive challenge, her indie wrestling experience is priceless and it's sure that she will be one of the serious threat for Rosemary's gold!
