WOMEN OF HONOR CHAMPIONSHIP: THE IMPORTANCE OF THE TITLE CREATION

With new web site format, that includes Women of Honor section, ROH (Ring of Honor) is just continuing the evaluation and elevation of their women's roster.

Deonna Purrazzo
With 11 officially signed women, ROH, now is having a kind-of-large for its size women talents pool. Of course there are always names that are stepping in front of the pack like Deonna Purrazzo, Sumie Sakai, Kelly Klein, Mandy Leon, Karen Q and our all-time favorite Aussie Tenille Dashwood, previously known as the underrated WWE Superstar Emma!

Having that range of talents, demands a top prize!

Tenille Dashwood
And since January 2018 we have a on-going tournament, with the following Quarter-finalists: Mandy Leon, Kelly Klein, Mayu Iwatani, Deonna Purrazzo, Kagetsu, Tenille Dashwood and Brandi Rhodes (the matches are combination between every two women's name in the row, except for Kagetsu who is still waiting for her opponent to be determined in a match between Sumie Sakai and Hana Kimura).

Sumie Sakai
Now we have to wait for the semi and the finals. AWOW is n ot daring to predict that early, who will be crowned the new WOH Champion - we hope that would be Deonna Purrazzo, Kelly Klein, Sumie Sakai or Tenille Dashwood (of course). We were surprised to learn that Brandi Rhodes (a.k.a. Eden in WWE) had defeated Karen Q, but it's a nice twist! We hope that Tenille will stop her flight to the heights, because they are having a match!

Kelly Klein
This tournament is so important, for the ROH and women's evolution! ROH is the third larger promotion in USA! Their women's division, has never been fully recognized by the promotion. Names like Mia Yim, Sara Del Ray, Awesome Kong, ODB, Maria Kanellis had just 'pass by' or were used as valets. Since June 2016, there was a change! The landscape in the pro-wrestling has changed dramatically and the women of wrestling, started to earn, more and more popularity. So in June 25, 2016, ROH aired their weekly program Women of Honor (great step, for ROH that we hope WWE to follow in the future).

Karen Q
But ROH stayed aside from the title creation! WWE/WWF had tehir women's belt since the 50-60's years of the past century, with several periods of inactivity. TNA/Impact Wrestlin, hadn't create their women's belt until 2007, when Gail Kim won it (Quick fact: An year after Trish Stratus retired as a 7-times WWE Women's Champion!!!). Today WWE is having three Women's titles (for their three brands, respectively: RAW, SmackDown and NXT). Vince Mcmhaon's promotion even held a Mae Young Classic all-women Tournament, honoring the past, present and future of women's wrestling, honoring their future PC talents and indie workers like Mercedes Martinez, Santana Garrett, Mia Yim, Piper Niven.

Mandy Leon
Impact Wrestling had their Knockouts Knockdown where they honoring their KOs and indie women and crowned their Queen of the Knockouts. The KO title and division had their peaks and lows, but today it has some new great additions like Rosemary, Allie, Sienna, Hania The Howling Huntress, Taya Valkyrie and their first Hall Of Fame female inductee Gail Kim, who's legacy in Impact Wrestling is the foundation of the existence of the KO's division.

Brandi Rhodes
ROH had their women competing mostly in a dark matches or as some DVD extra. So when the Women's Revolution started to spread in every destination, every promotion, ROH, wasn't able to miss it! They had stras like Taeler Hendrix, Deonna Purrazzo and Kelly Klein, at the time. They booked famous indie workers to compete in their ring, aside from the contracted women. Their women's division was that good, that they deserved a title.

But ROH, decided to test their female talents. And they created the all-women WOH program. Snce 2016, through 2017 all signed and guest women, had to prove that they really deserve a belt. Something that the audience knows at 100%! Now we are witnessing ROH joining the pack of the other two main US promotions and getting on the Women's Evolution wave with a nice title tournament!
