At first sight, after the Draft, the women in SmackDown Live looked like stuck in the rivalries and matches, without top prize. Actually we believed that there will be some competition between RAW and SDL over the main titles, but WWE decided to separate both brands completely.
For good or bad now we have RAW Women's Champion and future-coming Smack Down Women's Champion.
This Sunday the history will be write again.
Six amazing women will take a part in a historical six-pack challenge to determinate the inaugural SDL Women's title holder.
Let's see who we have:
ALEXA BLISS
Her time in NXT was memorable. Especially after she turned heel. Now Bliss is looking to make impression and accomplished what she wasn't able to accomplish "down there" in the developmental territory.
Alexa has amazing, risky, acrobatic set. She knows what she's doing. She is confident in the ring and her gimmick is working well. Alexa could be a very surprising champion. She's got it - that champion material, but we doubt that she will win the title this Sunday. Of course there is a chance, but she is not ready to be inaugural champion. Maybe next year, she will be more suitable as a change and fresh air in the title's landscape, but we can't see her as the inaugural champion, not because she doesn't deserve it...no, that woman walked a long way to SDL and she deserves title reign. But we can't see her as the first ever.
CARMELLA
Another "rookie" to the main roster. Carmella started as rival of Natalya and ended as a heel who is chasing Nikki Bella, consumed by rage and jealousy. Actually Carmella doesn't have to be jealous of Nikki.
I remember her first match in NXT, it was against Blue Pants (Leva Bates). That Code of Silence submission was really impressive and it still is. Carmella, as we predicted, didn't earn a NXT Women's championship reign, not because she didn't worth it, no she was great and apropriate, but back then there were a women who were on the top like Bayley, Asuka, Nia Jax. Now The Princess of Staten Island has another opportunity to win something and she has more chances. Why? Her rivalry with Nikki Bella is sort of a major for the show. While Natalya and Becky Lynch's storyline is cooling down these weeks, Carmella and Nikki's is getting more and more heat. Many fans are sort of tired of The Bella's domination. They remember Nikki's long exhausting reign, based mostly on cheating. Now Nikki is a good girl and she will be a good champion for the little girls who watch "Total Divas" /or "Bellas", but maybe we need someone who is more vicious and have a serious desire to be in WWE, like Carmella.
Carmella has a good chances, but maybe they are going to "screw her" in a favor of some of the next four women. As we said it about Alexa, Carmella deserves a reign and has some champion potential. But she and Alexa need more time in WWE and to earn more experience about the major things in the business and most importantly to survive in the main roster.
NATALYA
The Queen of Hart is talented veteran. Natalya survived during these years of changes, fighting several of the greatest alumni, from two generations, like Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, Melina, Eve, Lay-Cool and more. When I see her and Alicia Fox, they bring a lot of good memories in my head.
Natalya competed hard from the beginning of the year. She has three great matches for the WWE Diavs Championship against Charlotte on Pay-per-views which was some form of showing a respect. With or without title, Nattie is important part of WWE's women division, as she has that role of a mentor and character builder. She's great in that role. Of course she still got that magic that she has back then, when she was Divas Champion. She deserves a title reign. But we see her as a great character developer and trainer. She helped a lot to Becky Lynch. Now she has to help the new rising girls to reach the roofs of their possibilities and there is nothing wrong with that.
Natti has serious chances to become a inaugural champion. She missed the opportunity to be the first ever Divas Champion, maybe she will catch that train. But we have some doubts and we think that she needs to step back at this point and to get more inertia. Natalya deserves that belt and she may have it in a more competitive way, than a six-pack challenge, because she is able to do it. She deserves one-on-one big victory, why not in some special type of match.
NAOMI
Another woman who often gravitates over the gold. Naomi is a serious threat. Beyond her dancing and cool entrance there is a hungry for competition and gold woman.
Naomi is very athletic and her wrestling skills have been proved, time and time again. Many people, including us, wanted to see her as a champion. And we still want that.
Naomi worked for years to be here, where she is. He return to the ring was one of the most anticipating. Now she is in the eye of the storm and maybe she has better chances to accomplish her longtime goal.Her move set evolves. She evolved and maybe now is her time to shine, to spread the glow from SDL's top of the women's division.
Wining or not, Naomi is still someone who has a lot of possibilities in front of her.
NIKKI BELLA
The crowd loves her. Her return on SummerSlam was almost epic. She has already wrote her name in the history as longest reigning Divas Champion.
Nikki walked a long and hard way, fighting the stereotypes and the insinuations about how she reached the top. I have always said that I didn't like her real persona. Especially after I watched her in "Total Divas". But I enjoy her wrestling evolution and her mix of strong and aerial style. Her new finisher is more physical than the previous, which show us that she is not afraid of the physical challenge.
I am not pleased of the fact that she is not sure where she wants to be - in WWE or Hollywood! For now she is determinate to be successful Superstar in WWE, but what about tomorrow? Let's concentrate on the present. Well, now she is here and she is one of the 4 women with a big chances to win that Sunday.
Nikki next to Naomi and Natalya is a sort of a veteran. She has a lot of good and bad moments. Ups and downs. Her evolution is obvious, like it or not. She really deserves the respect and honors she receives. She deserves a title reign.
If she win this Sunday she must be prepare for a lot of happy Bella Nation's fans and a lot of more mean backlash attacks, of the type "She is John Cena's girlfriend and Daniel Bryan sister-in-law!". Actually John Cena was never showed as her back up, even on screen. I am totally sure and stand for the fact that she earned 99% of everything on her own. She may looks like a obsessed of big houses and cars and luxury, spoiled girl, but when the things come down to the wrestling competition, she is serious and professional like her fellow women Superstars.
BECKY LYNCH
We left the good for dessert!
AWOW avoids to reveal our preferences, but when we talk about talents we can't hold ourselves to reveal that Becky Lynch is our favorite for that match.
She has equal opportunities with the other girls, and we thing that there will be a huge four-way battle at the peak of the match between Carmella and Nikki and Natalya and Becky.
We want to see Becky as inaugural champion, not only because she deserve it, she had walked that hard, long way to this moment. Becky is fan favorite. Becky is fierce. The SDL Women's Title needs more fire at the beginning and someone to catapult it next to RAW Women's title prestige. Becky is one of the possibilities.
She worked hard for this and most importantly she loves what she is doing. That's why she is our favorite, despite the fact that the chances are equal.
At the end:
All of the 6 women is good enough to be the first SDL Women's Champion. Some of them have more skills, other needs to work more, but every one of this young women is capable of making a good champion. So we can't wait to see who is going to win this Sunday!
