Two matches, some talking as always, that was the WWE RAW's formula for Monday. Nothing wrong, since both matches involved title-holders. It was nice and somehow the situation gets back to normal, after WrestleMania 35 and the WWE Superstars Shake-Up.
Usual. Traditional. Back to basics.
NAOMI defeated 1/2 WWE WOMEN'S TAG TEAM CHAMPION BILLIE KAY /w. 1/2 WWE Women's Tag Team Champion Peyton Royce/
The Glowing Winner |
'But Who has your back?'
The IIconic entered the arena with the usual confidence and a bag full of teen jokes. |
That is what the WWE Women's Tag Team Champions the IIconics of BillieKay and Peyton Royce asked, after series of insulting, schoolgirls verbal abuse, that is their trademark. They reminded Naomi, that Bayley has said 'No to the Glow' and had gone to SmackDown, etc. A lot of talking!
Simple but filled with grace finish of the match! |
Then a match!
Quick match, but really important, as we'll show you in the Recap section. Billie started it with a kick and sort of a stretch submission and that was it... Naomi took control of the match and won it after neutralizing Royce and pinning Kay after athletic Sunset Flip.
Who's laughing now? Hm, not the IIconics |
It was short, though.
Recap:
I love Naomi's push! But most importantly I think that there is something that is build up out there and that might mean double trouble for the IIconics and their reign. They might fight on two fronts - on RAW and SDL. If I am right, after several alterations, Naomi might enter the Women's tag team picture with a mysterious partner... or maybe the things are not that intriguing and we will watch some bullying and singles, or even handicap matches and everything will fade away, quietly as her rivalry with Mandy Rose. But overall, I am happy that Naomi got a push.
The IIconics - they are just The IIConics - laughing, mocking, insulting in their schoolgirl's manner. Actually, I am more invested in their future rivalry with Asuka and Kairi Sane, but I think that defense against Naomi and a partner might be some refreshment as well, while the real next tag team champions got heat!
Why I think that? Because there is no one at this point who could be a suitable tag team partner or partner enough to help The Glow winning the tag belts, sorry! They could surprise my bringing someone from WWE NXT (like Candice LeRae), but that will be like a team built in the last moment. Like her team with Carmella, at the time. So I am for the "IIconics vs. Kairi&Asuka".
WWE RAW & SMACKDOWN WOMEN'S CHAMPION BECKY LYNCH defeated ALICIA FOX,
in a Non-Title Match; Lacey Evans Attacks
Becky 2 Belts interrupted |
Before the match, Becky 2 Belts had some words to say about Lacey Evans - about their future title match at Money In the Bank, the Lady is another blond ambition and Lynch already had been done with one showoff blondie. The Man mentioned that Evans is sort of a new incarnation of her former rival - Charlotte Flair, but more of a dope version, eventually. Then she decided to pay attention to her scheduled for tonight opponent - the veteran Alicia Fox.
The Lady of WWE had a lecture for the Man, titled 'What it means to be a Lady?' |
Well, the music that hit the ring wasn't Foxies... The Lady of WWE decided to explain to the Man what is like to be A Lady and promised to re-educate The Double Champ with her Woman's Right!
It's nice to see Alicia Fox in action, after months of in-ring inactivity |
We had a match!
Ready for Dis-Arm-Her?! |
Alicia Fox did her best. The match was intensive, nicely built and everyone got her moment. Of course, Becky set the things for the match's conclusion with beautiful Bexploder suplexes to add the final touch, her ultimate finisher the Dis-Arm Her armbar! Actually, there was something like a botch during the match, but out of it, everything was nicely done.
Women's Right - Out of nowhere! |
Then Lacey Evans showed up out of nowhere and strike with the Woman's Right, standing tall over the fallen champion and Fox.
Recap:
I'll start with Fox! I know that some fans associate her with the Divas era and they are pointing at her as a poor competitor... Sorry, but I totally disagree. For me Fox is a solid competitor, with nice, funny gimmicks and the prove how that she is professional is the fact that she is still in WWE. She's not a poor wrestler at all and I admire that they decided to book her against Becky, supporting the idea that many of the underrated women should have a shot at the champ in or out of title opportunity. It was nice to see this happened!
The Man was great as always with her standard but impactful moves. I love that they are not allowing her only to talk, but they use her as a wrestler, as well, because at one point all she did was talking and being attacked by Lacey.
Lacey's push is a really interesting decision and I am totally into it. I think that the WM's Main eventers feud was so intensive that it exhausts us all and we wanted to see someone else challenging. Well, Evans is doing just great! Now when we have a date on Money In The Bank, we can sit and enjoy how these two former NXT Superstars will put a match together, because at this point they have chemistry, while they are exchanging harsh words and punches. I think it's going to be a really good battle.
OVERALL:
The episode was interesting. As I said in the beginning, we had two title holders in action and it was kind of fresh, as the heat and possibilities weren't affected.
I am really curious where the rivalry between Naomi and The IIconics will lead us. Meanwhile, I am happy that The Man Vs. The Lady of WWE's storyline is evolving and getting more and more build-up and heat on its own, making us anticipating their title clash.
Nicely done!
